About My Approach & Blog

Hi, I’m Celia Delaney. I thought you might like to know a bit more about my approach and what this blog is going to be about, so here’s my answers to some of the most Frequently Asked Questions about my work and the Shine on Stage blog.

WHAT’S DIFFERENT ABOUT MY APPROACH?

I believe speaking is one of the quickest and most dramatic ways to expose who YOU really are, and that’s why I help you to work on yourself as a whole person, not just a speaker, as the biggest part of your speaking success.

Thomas Leonard, in his book, The 28 Laws of Attraction, writes:
“Develop more character than you need.

This is particularly true with speaking. You will need to develop your personality, your skills and your all-round ability to live life to the full, if you are to become a truly successful speaker.

WHAT WILL THE BLOG BE ABOUT?

I’ll be talking about some of the more technical aspects of speaking, how to create content, elements of style and also how to run a speaking business – what it demands of you as a performer, how to get gigs, what you need from your team and how to sell from stage.

WHO IS MY TRAINING AIMED AT?

I work with business owners, senior managers and sales people in £1m+ businesses and the public sector, on how to promote their business through speaking.

IS IT ANY TYPE OF SPEAKING?

No. When I say ‘speaking’ in this context, I am normally referring to the 1-to-many type of speaking, that is, standing up in front of a group of people. This makes it is a 1-way conversation, unless you get heckled of course! Sure, you might have questions at the end (although I don’t recommend it) but otherwise it’s pretty much uninterrupted speaking.

This makes it different to 1-to-1 selling in some ways, which is more of a dialogue with the other side raising questions and objections. I teach 1-to-1 sales as well, through my training company, Delaney & Hart Limited, but it isn’t the main focus of the Shine on Stage blog or our live events and products.

HOW IS IT DIFFERENT TO OTHER TYPES OF PRESENTING?

I’m going to be talking specifically about how to promote your business through speaking. This differentiates it from ‘presentation skills’ per se:

I don’t work with people in organisations doing PowerPoint presentations to other departments who just want to impart information without any persuasion or inspirational element to it.

I don’t work with people who need to prepare a wedding or after dinner speech that is pure entertainment.

I work with people who want to get up and persuade, influence and most importantly, sell.

This might be in the form of a pitch to investors or award panels, a seminar at a network where you are raising awareness of what you do, or pure platform sales – the kind where you get a table run, that is a load of people running to buy with their credit cards in hand (and oh boy is that fun the first time you get one!!)

SO if that sounds like it might help you or your organisation in meeting your ambitions and vision, then do get in touch.

I run in-house courses, individual coaching on speaking, and there are products and free resources on this site.
